Top 5 Vacation-Planning Tips

The summer vacation season is nearing, and many people are starting to dream of trips to the Jersey Shore, Atlantic City, or even further down the coast. At Value Van & Car Rental, we get a lot of travelers coming through our doors. Plus, we’ve done a fair amount of traveling ourselves. Along the way, we’ve learned a few things that can make your vacation planning a bit easier.

1. Set a travel budget.

It's easy to overspend while on vacation—especially if you don't determine how much you can afford before your jet-setting. Your best bet is to set an overall amount, and then allocate specific dollar amounts to hotels, car rentals, food, entertainment, and so on.

2. Don't procrastinate on the big things.

You may be able to wait until the last minute to buy tickets to a show or make dinner reservations. However, you don't want to wait too long to get your vacation essentials set in stone. We recommend that you book your hotel or accommodations, rental car, and flights far enough in advance that you don't miss out.

3. Look for deals.

We're surprised by the number of people who pay for the first price they're given, instead of looking for a special offer or coupon to save money. Make your vacation budget go further by looking online or asking the retailer about special discounts. At Value Van & Car Rental, we feature rental specials right on our website.

4. Make a packing list.

Some people are natural list-makers. Others tend to throw things in a bag. While the latter approach might work for weekends away, a packing list is a helpful tool when you're going on a longer vacation. That way, you can make sure you have everything you need and don't overpack in the process.

5. Choose a comfortable rental car.

If you're going on a road trip, rent a car that will be comfortable for you, your passengers, and your luggage. You may be able to get away with an economical compact car if you're traveling alone or with only a friend or two. However, we always recommend that you choose a larger, more comfortable rental when going on long trips. A minivan or conversion van may be a better option.

Bottomline: Take time to plan your vacation and work out all the details. If you need help figuring out which rental car will serve you best, then trust our team atValue Van & Car Rental.
